Our Beginnings

Fully committed to the belief that artists, hobbyists and the general Philadelphia community should be able to enjoy fine woodworking without the cost and often impracticality of building a home wood shop, Michael Vogel held the keys to our incredible facility in July 2011.

Demolition of the interior and clean-out of the space took nearly 2 months, setting the stage for major construction and interior rehabilitation.  Michael, along with an army of volunteers and contractors built the facility from scratch, including the addition of a second level and all new electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems.  In the final month preceding our opening, all attention was focused on the equipping of the woodshop, finishing the art gallery and stocking our hardwood lumber yard.  Come by the shop to see just how amazing the facility is — we guarantee that you will not be disappointed.

Our shop will forever be indebted to the efforts of all of the volunteers who contributed the time, energy and expertise — from legal, architectural and electrical work, to framing, construction and even general cleanup.   Their legacy here will be the pure enjoyment our members as part of a community of craftspeople that now has unprecedented access to a state-of-the-art woodworking facility.
