Skill Level: Beginner

Class Description: This class is the perfect entry point for anyone looking to explore woodturning on the lathe. In this immersive, hands-on, full-day class, students will build foundational skills—from tool selection and sharpening to proper body positioning and cutting techniques—while learning to safely shape wood into well-crafted spindles. Taught by award-winning master turner Eli Polite, the class makes complex techniques accessible to beginners. Under Eli’s guidance, you’ll create a series of beautiful turned spindle projects to take home, reinforcing each new skill along the way. Whether you’re new to the lathe or looking to build confidence, this class offers a rewarding introduction to a whole new dimension of woodworking.

Note on Apparel: Turning produces large amounts of shavings and dust. Students are encouraged to wear a smock or old shirt that closes around the neck. We also ask that you wear long pants and generally dress to get messy. Leave any dangling jewelry at home, tie back loose hair, and no open-toed shoes will be allowed.  Feel free to bring a dust mask!
